Old Vintage Release · Handcrafted Family Estate
This is not simply another current-vintage release. It is a mature 2016 vintage being released back to the market after years of ageing.
Cape Grace is a tiny, family-run winery in Margaret River, established by Karen and her husband. Its small scale is part of what makes the wines special. Rather than relying on large-scale production, the wines are made in small batches with a strong emphasis on traditional, hands-on winemaking.
One of the defining features is the use of a traditional Basket Press. It is a slower and more labour-intensive method, but the gentle pressing helps produce Cabernet with refinement, balance and fine tannin structure.
The 2016 vintage was an excellent year for Margaret River Cabernet Sauvignon. After almost a decade of maturation, the wine has moved beyond the youthful stage, developing greater complexity, softness and depth while retaining the regional character of Margaret River Cabernet.
That is what makes this release particularly interesting.
It is not about releasing the newest vintage.
It is about bringing a beautifully matured vintage back to the market at the right time.
For those who appreciate aged Cabernet, traditional winemaking and the individuality of a genuine small family estate, this is a bottle with a story worth discovering.
